A Bike Ride to Support Diversity
Monterey to Los Angeles
June 2005

“One California. Two Wheels. Three Riders.” (123) is a bike ride to create awareness, understanding, and promote racial and ethnic diversity. California is home to a diverse population. This diversity enriches the fabric of the community and enhances the quality of the workforce. While the recent world events have unified our nation, they have also had a somewhat divisive impact. Hate crimes, and subtle but more pervasive acts of workplace discrimination and prejudice in day to day life, have increased substantially. This has been particularly harmful to people who “appear to be” of Middle East descent – including, but not limited to Sikhs, Hispanics, and of course, Arabs. This bike ride is a modest attempt to do our share to make this world a better place.

123 bike ride…

... will take place December 18th to 25th as three cyclists (and a crew member) will travel approximately 500 miles from Monterey to Los Angeles.

... is about raising money to fight ignorance and misguided prejudice.

... will increase awareness and knowledge among the general public about the various ethnic groups.

... will attempt to create better understanding for each other among our fellow citizens.

... will provide motivation for others to work towards similar causes.

With a modest budget of $3366.00 and the ambition three people, the 123 bike ride will go a long way (!!!) in creating more harmony in this great state of California.
