WHEREAS , the Southern California Sikh Council has taken a strong leadership role in promoting
respect and understanding of the Sikh culture and the many important contributions they have
made throughout California and they celebrate " Baisakhi " a day that reminds all Sikhs live
their lives with a sense of hospitality, friendship, generosity and kindness and
WHEREAS, the Council has led multiple education efforts for the Sikh community and the entire state
including a successful joint venture to distribute an educational coloring book titled " The Boy
with Long Hair" to students in elementary schools throughout the entire Golden State, teaching them
about the diverse characteristics of their fellow classmate and
WHEREAS , Sikhs a Southern California join others around the world today to bring more than 22 million
Sikhs together in celebration of the universal spirit of family and togetherness and in recognition of
Guru Gobind Singh the father of the khalsa Spiritual Nation, Who on this day in the year 1699 directed
all Khalsas to serve humanity with love and peace and asked them to spread the radiance of the Holy Nam;
and
WHEREAS, the state of California greatly benefits from the plentiful contributions of the Sikh community in
various area, including leadership in business agriculture, the medical profession and the legal field. among
many other important sectors of our economy; and
WHEREAS, Sikh American, whose values are aligned with those of the founders of this great nation represent
vibrant and important threads in the strong and diverse fabric that colors the landscape and the neighborhoods
of our Golden State; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that I, Cruz M. Bustamante, Lieutenant Governor of the State of California, do hereby recognize
the celebration of "Baisakhi" and encourage all Californians to join me in honoring the many contributions
of our Sikh community
