Those who wish to seek God, search in Hymns (of Guru Granth)
The sacred verses of Sri Guru Granth Sahib are called Gurbani that means the Guru's word or the messages enshrined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib. In Sikhism, the Guru is the 'Wisdom of the Word' (Gurshabad).
Creator revealed the ‘Word’ through Sikh Gurus from time to time, that is, the most recent sacred revelations in the world history of religions, entered in the text of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. The Granth carries an outstanding significance and is the Holy Scripture, which was written and preserved during the life times of its authentic authors. No other Holy scriptures were written during life times of their authors.
Sri Guru Granth Sahib provides to the whole mankind a universal spiritual code, and shines with purity, authenticity and love of true lovers of GOD, irrespective of their religion, caste, color, creed or status.
The Sikhs regard Sri Guru Granth Sahib as complete and final embodiment of the message for them. There is no word, beyond the Word (Gurbani shabad).
To live in this world of falsehood and save us from the vagaries of the world it is pertinent to follow the teachings of Guru Granth, the living Guru of the Sikhs of the world. Guru Granth teaches the following principles:
One God for all
All the people of the world are equal.
Treat women as equal.
Speak and live truthfully.
Control the five vices, lust, anger, greed, allurement, arrogance (kam , krodh, lobh , moh, hunkar)
Live in God’s Hukam (HIS Will)
Practice humility, kindness, compassion, and love.
Meditate the name of God (remember HIM always)
The fifth Guru Arjan Dev first compiled the Guru Granth in I604 in the city of Amritsar. Reports came to Guru Arjan dev that Pirthi Chand, his elder brother who thought was the claimant of Gur-Gaddi, was conspiring against him. He was composing his own hymns and was passing them to the visiting Sikhs as the compositions of Guru Nanak Dev as well as other Gurus. Guru Arjan Dev realized that if this situation was allowed to continue it would be detrimental to the Sikh religion.
