The following are some of the quotes from e-mails to Dya Singh by the
audiences
TODAY'S NEED:
GURBANI KIRTAN THAT TOUCHES THE HEART
There is a general concern today that many young Sikhs do not attend
Gurdwaras. We need to understand why that is so. Of the dozens of e-mails
and letters which Dya Singh of Australia received on completion of the
Group's 3 weeks tour of UK Gurdwaras on 22 February, he has kindly forwarded
quotations from three. These speak for the hundreds of young Sikhs who have
been inspired by his Kirtan which "touches the heart"; and, in turn, this is
the type of Sangat response which inspires Dya Singh and his dedicated
colleagues to continue with their mission.
Quote:
"I attended your session at the Ramgharia Gurdwara, Neville Road, London,
UK, and it is fair to say that I was in awe. You have this incredible aura, wonderful drive and
pervasive passion to deliver kirtan the way you do and I really cannot thank
you enough for that.
I am a 19 year old student reading law at the University of London, and I
have just felt compelled to stop studying for a while and, as I listen to
your Waheguru simran from the Naam album, write this email to you which I
have wanted to scribble down since I saw you. I discovered your music after
the last time you came to the UK and have started collecting ever since. I
was desperately sad to miss out saying hello to you at Neville Road because I had actually
rehearsed saying this spiel to you in person.
Over the years, whenever I have listened to the usual influx of.......
raagis from India...... I get disillusioned is truly an understatement. Much
to my parents annoyance, there is simply no incentive for me to attend. That
is why you have been such a breath of fresh air ..... Better late than never
though hey! I have achieved some of my most personal, intimate spiritual
experiences through your music and that is surely reason enough for saying
Thank You..
But you have also inspired me to want to contribute to this kirtan
revolution. I used to be in a band at school singing predominantly soul songs which
performed regularly for 3 years. I could make a hall of 400 white people clap but I
can'nt even bring myself to open my lips in gurdwara. What a sad state of
affairs! It really does frustrate me. I have a voice which, admittedly, is
completely untrained in the nuances of kirtan/gurbani music, but one that I
want to use to convey this wonderful spiritual message/feeling. I have the
confidence to think I can, and having heard you and your daughters wonderful voices in
harmony, I just wanted to join in."
Quote:
" Thank you Dya Singh for coming to UK, especially the Ramgarhia Sikh
Gurdwara in Slough. Vaheguru gave me the opportunity to be there and
partake in the experience. The experience of listening to you and your family (inc.
Keith and Deeraj ofcourse), of feeling many emotions. I went home with
tears in my eyes, tears of inspiration and love for the Almighty; triggered by
that experience."
Quote:
" I came to see your kirtan at the Ramgharia Gudwara in Slough. Let me
first explain, the past year has not been a good year for me and I have been
really listening to a lot of paatth to help me. I mainly listen to simran because i dont really understand the punjabi
too well........When I walked into the hall where you were, i heard your daughters doing
simran. The words they were saying were "waheguru waheguru bol pyraeo".
Their voice and the words really touched my heart. I believe that Babaji sent me
to your kirtan for a reason, I felt really good after your kirtan."

As far as I understand, it is the duty of the parents to provide Sikhi education to their children. There was
no need of any Daya Singh if the parents do their jobs properly. Daya Singh Ji is doing good job in
providing Sikhi education to those youth whose parents failed in their role of providing Sikhi education
to their children.
It is very easy to train young kids and mould them. It is very difficult to bring youth back to Sikhi fold.
Under the current atmosphere we need more such Daya Singh's.
