SACRIFICE OF GURU TEG BAHADUR JI

Kashmiri Pandits visiting Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib

It seemed that Guru Gobind Singh took birth in this world to take the challenges of cruelties. He was only nine years old when his father sacrificed himself to save the Hindu community from the clutches of Aurangzeb in Delhi on 11th November 1675.

Mughal emperor Auranzeb from the time he sat on the throne started converting Hindus to Muslims else slaughtering them. Initially he started his work from Kashmir where the Kashmiri Pandits were known to be the scholars of Hinduism.Perhaps the emperor thought that converting them would make his task of the rest easier. He specially appointed Iftkhar Khan for this purpose as the governor of Kashmir. Hindus performed many religious rituals to save their community but to no respite. This compelled the Kashmiris in search for a personality who could save their religion. Pandit Kripa Ram who taught Sanskrit to the tenth master advised his people to go to the court of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib.

A group of Hindu Brahmins came to the court of ninth Guru on 25th May 1675 at Anandpur Sahib and urged him to save their community from the cruelties of Aurangzeb. According to the famous Sikh scholars, Gobind Rai who was present there during that time

urged his father, That there cannot be any able authority higher than the Guru himself.Who can perform the necessary proceedings for the sake of this Community. Every body there became quiet amazed but not the ninth master. He immediately told the Kashmiri group to tell the emperor that Guru Tegh Bahadur is their leader and if he can convert him then all of the Hindu Community will get converted to Islam immediately. On hearing this Auranzeb became very happy, he thought of a short cut method of conversion. Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib started for a march towards Delhi along with few Sikhs like Bhai Mati Dass ji, Bhai Sati Dass ji, Bhai Dyala ji, Bhai Jaita ji, Bhai Uda ji. Before leaving He dedicated his son for the services of Sikh community.
